U.S. Kids Golf Gulf Coast Spring Tour
Most Successful in 10 Year History!
The U.S. Kids Golf Gulf Coast Spring Tour concluded our eight tournaments with our Spring Tour Championship at Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner, LA. The Spring tour had it all, multiple personal best scores, close competition throughout the age divisions with numerous playoffs. We reached new participation highs, 101 participants at Beaver Creek, 96 for the Spring Tour Championship and we averaged just over 89 participants per tournament. Thank you for being a part of this memorable season. It was fun to see the sportsmanship among the players, the camaraderie among the families, with new friendships being made and friendships being renewed made it special. This is junior golf as it was meant to be, great golf and memories for a lifetime.

Spotlight on Chateau – Our 2024 Spring Tour Championship
Playoffs are a common occurrence on the Gulf Coast Local Tour due to the high level of competition. We had two playoffs this past Sunday.
Jayden Williams of Prairieville, LA plays the last four holes in two under to par to force a playoff with Spring Tour Overall Champion Justin Lotz of Slidell, LA in the Boys 15-18 division. Both players came in with 76. A playoff that went four holes before it was decided by Jayden. Justin finished the Spring Season with an impressive 74.57 stroke average in 7 tournaments with a low score of 71.
Rounding out the Top 5 in this close division
Dawson Abney – Slidell, LA – 77
John McIntosh – Bernice, LA – 79
Jace Lefort – Marrero, LA – 80 – Jace took a 9 on #18 – ouch!
Aidan Caruso of New Orleans and Carter Fortier of Denham Springs in the Boys 10 division both came in with a 39. Aidan won on the first playoff hole. Aidan had two scores of 36 this Spring and Carter improved throughout the season with his 39 being his personal best for the Spring Tour. I am very proud of this age division as they were a part of increased distances by U.S. Kids Golf for this age division. Samuel Jablonski of Baton Rouge finished third with a 42. Samuel did, I think, a first for our tour. On Sunday morning he competed in the U.S. Kids Golf Central Mississippi Tour in Jackson and drove to Kenner to compete in the afternoon, a full day of golf competing in two different states on the same day.
The Girls 11-12 division is very competitive and talented. This Spring was no exception!
Nirvana Lebaron of Denham Springs won with 77, edging out Isabella Reeves of Zachary – 79 and followed by Abigail Hui of New Orleans with an 84.
Look at the balance of this division that deserves attention.
Nirvana Lebaron had her best personal score for the Spring Season with a 75 at Beaver Creek. She also won at Timberlane with 77.
Isabella Reeves won at The Club at Diamondhead with 82 and had a personal best for the Spring Season with a 77 at Beaver Creek.
Abigail Hui got three wins on the Spring Tour, an 83 at Grand Ridge, 78 at Webb Memorial making history on the Gulf Coast Tour, our first ever double eagle, and 79 at The Island.
CoCo Bowman of Springfield, LA won the Girls 8 and under division with a 41. CoCo had an excellent Spring Season, 33 at Timberlane, 34 at The Island and 36 at The Club at Diamondhead.
In the Girls 15-18, Vivian Volion of Springfield won with a 75 followed by Kailey Batte of Destrehan with her personal best for the Spring Season with 82. Vivian played another tournament on the Spring Tour and had an even par 72 at Beaver Creek. In talking with her dad, “The U.S. Kids Golf Tour is an excellent tour for Vivian to keep her game sharp as she prepares for other competitions.” I am seeing this more and more and I welcome these players as they prepare for future success. Vivian is presently in talks with several college golf coaches.
I would put the Gulf Coast Boys 11 age division up against any in the U.S. Kids Golf Network, a division of serious talent and competition. Matthew DeRoy of Foley, AL, 4th in the World at Pinehurst, as his parents told me Sunday, “We want Matthew to play against the best in the country.” Matthew came in with a 72 to win in this strong division, his other round with us this Spring was a 71 at The Club at Diamondhead, losing in a playoff with our overall Spring Tour Champion, Landon Lotz of Slidell, 12thin the World at Pinehurst. Landon finished tied for second at 75 with Samuel Perrodin of Ville Platte, LA. Landon in seven rounds had an impressive stroke average of 72.28, with five of those seven rounds at par or better. Samuel had a stroke average for eight tournaments this Spring of 74.37. Samuel and Landon both had the low scores for the overall Spring Season with 69s.
Coming in 4th with a very respectable 77 was Brandon Fuselier of Slidell with a stroke average of 78.14 in seven tournaments. Brandon has been trending with lower scores, coming in with 76 last week at Diamondhead.
Our 5th place finish went to the ever improving Billy Van Buzzell of Baton Rouge with an 80. This tied his personal best this Spring with his 80 last week at Diamondhead.
The Boys 12 division was won by the 2023 Louisiana State Junior Champion for his age division, Owen Lejeune of Baton Rouge. Owen came in with a 73. Owen had it going early being two under par through his first six holes. After a rough stretch for Owen, he settled down and played his last five holes in even par. This is what champions do, they stay strong through the tough stretches in a round. Owen’s low round for the Spring Tour was 72 at Beaver Creek. In second place we had two up and coming players, Wolf Anthony of Kenner and Elijah Dufrene of Slidell, both coming in with 79. Wolf won earlier this Spring at Belle Terre with a 78 in a playoff with Micah Biguenet. Rounding out 4th place is another up and coming player, Micah Biguenet of Covington, LA who came in with an 81. Micah earlier this Spring won at Timberlane with a 79 and won again at The Island with 78.
I really enjoy seeing these types of rounds because they build so much confidence in a player. In the Boys 13-14 age division, Nolan Osborne of Gonzales was three over par after his first four holes. Nolan played his last 14 holes in one under par that included three birdies and finishing his last four holes in one under par to come in with a winning score of 74. In a tie for second with 78 are two ever improving players, Parker Peeler of Metairie and E.J. Spangler of Youngsville. Parker won at Grand Ridge with 77 and lost in a playoff to a chip in by Hayden Amy at The Club at Diamondhead with a 76. Finishing 4th at 82 was Hayden Amy of Broussard. Hayden had earlier success this Spring with three victories, 75 at Timberlane, 76 at The Island and 76 at The Club at Diamondhead. Finishing 5th was Pearce Weinstein of Metairie with 83.

BC CUP FOUNDATION
A Sincere Message from Jimmy Headrick
What started out 30 years ago as a tribute in memory of my son Colin, years later also became a tribute to my longtime fellow PGA member Tim Hogan’s son Barry, honoring both brief lives. The B.C. Cup Foundation has made a solid impact in young people’s lives. To date, 100 college scholarships have been awarded, surpassing $400,000 in private donations. The annual B.C. Cup Junior Golf Championship is held at The Club at Diamondhead as an ongoing part of the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour. We award our scholarships each year at the annual Kelly Gibson Foundation Banquet. The support of caring people like you, no matter the amount keeps our mission moving forward. Raising funds is something I personally do not enjoy doing, asking friends for donations, yet when the cause means so much, I look forward to seeing these scholarships go to work.
